These regions accounted for about 30% of Türkiye's electric arc furnace steel production capacity, equivalent to about 11.7 million tons of steel output per year. Most of the local steel mills were long material mills. Although the steel mills were not affected, the national energy suppliers temporarily stopped delivering natural gas to the region, and the Port of Iskenderun was also damaged, At least the supply of long timber will decrease this month.

Up to recently, Türkiye's rebar export market has remained calm. In the early stage, influenced by the stronger scrap price, the export quotation of deformed steel bars of Türkiye Steel Plant rose to 710-720 US dollars/ton FOB, but the price was too high than the buyer's expectation, and the transaction was not good. However, under the current situation, the demand for scrap steel import in the disaster area is constrained, and the remaining regions may increase the purchase of scrap steel to fill the gap. In addition, on the 6th, the domestic scrap trade in Türkiye was stopped, and the import negotiations were also temporarily suspended. The scrap imported into Türkiye was affected, and the specific impact gradually emerged this month. After the earthquake, local automobile transportation became the main force, and the scrap price might be pushed up.
